Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan (1965)

Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan (Urdu: شفقت امانت علی‎; born 26 February 1965) is a Pakistani classical singer belonging to Patiala Gharana lineage. He was the lead vocalist of the Pakistani rock band Fuzön. He was awarded the President’s Pride of Performance civil award on 23 March 2008.

He has been a student of the classical music tradition of India and Pakistan since age four. He was inspired towards music by his father, his uncle Ustad Fateh Ali Khan sahib as well as Roshanara Begum, to name a few. He was role of honour from the Music Society of Government College, Lahore and has been honoured by the President’s Pride of Performance in Pakistan on 14th August, 2007, making him the 6th in line from his family to receive this honour.

Shafqat Amanat Ali was assigned to sing his country’s national anthem before the Pakistan-India’s Twenty20 match at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. But he alleged to have forgotten the lyrics of the national anthem during his performance on 19 March 2016. People retaliated over his mistake on social media. However, he apologized to the nation over his unintentional blunder.
